Ireland Inside & Out: Staigue Stone Ring Fort, County Kerry
The fort was a stronghold of a local rí tuath, (lord or king), his tuath (his people) and animals.

Staigue was more than just a fort in a strategic location. Archeological evidence shows it was also a place of worship and an observatory. Copper was mining in the surrounding area.

It is constructed totally of interlocking stones using no mortar.
Staigue was built around 300 to 400 AD, although earlier structures occupied the site beginning about 100 BC.
